Curved Stone Steps

Theocentricity & Humanism

  • Core Scripture: Romans 11:36; Revelation 4:11; Judges 17.

  • The Argument: Humanism is the most subtle "poison" in the church. It makes man the end and God the means. True Christianity recognizes that God is the center of the universe and His glory is the only valid motive for existence.

  • Greek Focus: Anthropocentric (human-centered) vs. Theocentric (God-centered).

  • Study: Listen to “Ten Shekels and a Shirt,” and the Theocentricity & Humanism sermon series.

  • Key Concept: Contrast the "Gospel of Utility" (God for my sake) with the "Gospel of Glory" (I for God's sake).

  • Study Questions:

    • In Ten Shekels and a Shirt, how does the story of Micah illustrate "utilizational" religion?

    • Read Revelation 4:11. If all things were created for His pleasure, how does that change your prayer requests?

    • Analyze your current ministry: Is it for the "benefit of man" or the "satisfaction of the Lamb"?

  • Key Verse: "For of him, and through him, and to whom, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen." (Romans 11:36)
